RWANDA:World Vision staff awarded for best ‘poverty fighter’ on Labour Day

World Vision’s Tubehoneza Area Development Programme staff were acknowledged as preeminent community-based staff maing a significant contribution to the fight against poverty in the district of Kicukiro, where the ADP is located.

Speaking on International Labour Day, the Mayor of Kicukiro district, Paul Jules Ndamage, commended World Vision for the efforts to promote community well-being by supporting citizens' economic initiatives.


Two certificates were presented to the Tubehoneza programme coordinator. The first was from the Ministry of Labour and the second from the District. The programme was also presented with a check for 100,000 Rwandese francs (US$180) for best practices meant to reverse the trend of poverty in the community they serve.

“We are overwhelmed by joy. It shows that both community and the government leadership acknowledge our efforts. It was a surprise,” said Calvin Mugabo, Tubehoneza Area Development Programme coordinator.

“We will maintain our hard work to enable the people we serve experience greater transformation in their lives.” he added.

Tubehoneza Area Development Programme operates in two of 10 sectors of Kicukiro District in the surburb of Kigali city, Kanombe and Nyarugunga.

In 2007, Tubehoneza was portrayed as one of the best projects in the district for the empowerment of women.
